Anyway, I wanted to start documenting/keeping a stream of conscious account of my development methodology. I am constantly in the middle of several different projects and freelance jobs, so I’m going to try to keep this space relatively up to date. The first of my running commentary here will be:
How NOT to create a platformer with Corona SDK part 1
I want to make sure others can learn from my mistakes. I’m not at master-level with Corona/lua by any stretch of the imagination, as there are some folks out there doing absolutely stellar work. But I still want to make sure I can impart something to those just starting out.
First of all, I wanted to discuss my habits when I start a new project:
Best practices for locating assets:
- Opengameart - art
- Freesounds - music/sfx
- Start using storyboard (place reference docs).
- Using sprites
- Event model with button mapping (on screen controls)
- Gimp for graphic editing
- project folder
- images (assigned by type and use)
